Examples of feedback systems

This section presents examples of how feedback systems have been developed and used. It describes the methods and results they achieved, with links to more information.

The following examples use some or all of the good practice principles described on the Feedback Systems page. So do the others listed below.

Some of these systems have been used in agriculture and some other sectors such as health, education or water. It appears that they could all be adapted for agriculture projects, for instance to generate farmer feedback on: the strength of farmer groups, the quality and quantity of extension services and programme design / goals.

Others

The other feedback initiatives page includes short descriptions of closely related initiatives which use similar methods to generate feedback:

  • Client assessment (in the microfinance sector)
  • Measuring empowerment (from Bangladesh)
  • Listen First (to assess participation)
  • The Outcomes Star (from the UK homeless sector)
  • Grantee feedback (three leading examples)

Some other initiatives have taken a different approach to managing the levels of participation in development projects. These include ActionAid's ALPS, the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership's 2007 Standard and relevant professional certification.

Technology

Pioneers are using SMS text, mobile phone and web technology to collect and present feedback in new ways. They include:

These approaches could potentially be used in agriculture to create new ways of generating feedback from farmers and other stakeholders.
